Why is New Jersey called the Garden State?

Ben Franklin described New Jersey as a barrel open on each end. He described New Jersey like that because New Jersey was selling fruit and vegetables to Philly and New York.

On August 24,1876,a man named Abraham Browning gave a speech on New Jersey Day. In the speech,he called New Jersey the Garden State.
